MM2211

Q: What is the default login information of the MM2211?
A: The default IP address of the MM2211 is 192.168.1.1. The default user name is "admin". The default password is "password". The default mode for MM2211 is route mode. If the MM2211 is in bridge mode, the default IP address will be 192.168.0.254.

Q: What is the difference between route mode and bridge mode?
A: The route mode supports multiple devices connected behind the MM2211. The bridge mode allows only one device to be connected behind the MM2211. Most Metro ISPs allows multiple devices connected behind the MM2211. In route mode, the MM2211 will act as the DHCP server to the devices connected behind the MM2211, as well as perform NAT (Network Address Translation). In bridge mode, the PCs connected behind the MM2211 generally should be set to obtain IP address automatically; the DHCP request will be forwarded by the MM2211 to the DHCP server in the Metro ISP.

Q: I forgot my MetroFlex IP address - what do I do?
A: Perform a factory reset to set your device back to route mode. The address will now be 192.168.1.1.

Q: How do I reset to factory defaults?
A: With the unit powered on, insert a paper clip into the reset button on the back of the device and hold for 8 seconds.

Q: How do I know I am connected to the Metro ISP network?
A: Check the Information - System page for Internet Status. If the Internet Status shows connected, you are connected to the Metro ISP network.

Alternatively, check the Wireless Association Device LED (the third LED from the left) for wireless association status. The LED should be green to indicate association.

Q: How does MM2211 perform firmware upgrades?
A: The MM2211 is pre-configured w/ the IP address of the automatic firmware server hosted by Ruckus Wireless. The MM2211 will periodically check the firmware server for the latest firmware. If the firmware on the device is an older version than what is currently available on the firmware server, the MM2211 will update the firmware automatically (in the background). Reboot the device to complete the firmware update.

Q: I cannot connect to the Internet - what should I do?
A: Check the following:
  • The configured SSID matches the one provided by your Metro ISP.
  • The security setting matches the one provided by your Metro ISP.
  • The device is located in a place where adequate wireless coverage is available.
Connectivity generally can be improved by moving the MM2211 closer to the metro node, improving line of sight, or placing the device in an elevated location. If connectivity still does not exist, reset the MM2211 to factory defaults and reconfigure the product.

Q: How do I obtain a support log from the MM2211?
A: The debug dump is useful for the service provider to troubleshoot the MM2211. The debug dump can be obtained by going to the Web Interface and selecting Maintenance -> Support page. Either copy and paste the content into the dialogue box and send the result via email to the service provider's support contact, or select the upload button (on the bottom of the page) to save the dump to a file to be sent to the support contact.

Q: How do I determine the version of the firmware?
A: The firmware version can be obtained on the Information - System page. It is listed as "S/W version".

Q: Can I set a static IP address on my MM2211?
A: The IP address can be set by going to Configuration - System page, and selecting the appropriate setting under WAN Interface.

Q: How can the service provider manage the MM2211 in route mode?
A: In Route mode, the MM2211 should be set to obtain a WAN IP address automatically from the Metro ISP DHCP server. The obtained IP address then can be reached by the service provider network management center. Make sure the option under Configuration -> System for Remote HTTP access is checked.

Q: How can the service provider manage the MM2211 in bridge mode?
A: In Bridge mode, the MM2211 should be set to obtain WAN IP address automatically from the Metro ISP DHCP server. The home user then should disconnect the PC behind the MM2211.

In Bridge mode, the MM2211 will clone the IP address of the devices behind the MM2211. Therefore, in order for the service provider's remote management center to manage the MM2211, ensure that MM2211 is using its own MAC address. The home user MUST disconnect the PC behind the MM2211.

Q: How can the home user setup the MM2211 in bridge mode?
A: In Bridge mode, the default IP address of the MM2211 is 192.168.0.254. The home user should first set his PC to the same subnet as 192.168.0.x. After logging in, set the appropriate SSID to match that of the service provider's SSID. Once complete, the home user should change the IP address of his PC back to DHCP. The home user then can browse the Internet.

However, since the home user's obtained IP address is different than the IP address of the MM2211, the user will not be able to access the Web interface of the MM2211 at the same time as browsing the Internet.

Q: Can I connect an external antenna to the MM2211?
A: The MM2211 does not support an external antenna. The MM2211 uses a combination of vertical and horizontal antenna arrays to maximize connectivity.

Q: How can I connect multiple computers to the MM2211?
A: In Route mode, the MM2211 can allow multiple PCs to connect. Since the MM2211 only has a single Ethernet port, the user should connect a hub or a switch behind the MM2211 to accommodate multiple PCs.

Q: How do I connect a Wi-Fi router to the MM2211 to provide in-house Wi-Fi coverage?
A: Configure your existing Wi-Fi router to use DHCP for the Internet, or WAN connection. Configure and verify that the MM2211 is working in Bridge Mode. Directly connect the MM2211 with the WAN port on the existing Wi-Fi router using an Ethernet cable. The existing Wi-Fi router should be able to obtain a DHCP address from your Metro ISP's network through the MM2211.

Q: Can I support wireless to the MM2211 on the WAN interface, and then wireless on the LAN interface?
A: The current firmware does not support wireless in (to MM2211) and wireless out (to laptop).

Q: Where can I buy the MM2211 Wireless Access Gateway?
A: The recommended reseller of the MM2211 Wireless Access Gateway is Expressnets. The equipment can be purchased online at https://www.expressnets.com/Google_Wifi_Mv.htm.

We are compliant with Tropos Networks' Metro Compatible Extensions Specification (TMCX) program. The standards-based 802.11 b/g radio can work with other standards-based products.

Q: I can't obtain a DHCP address from the Metro network - what should I do?
A: Try using bridge mode. If that doesn't work, try contacting the provider to use a static IP address.

Q: Why is there no Firmware Upgrade button on the Maintenance->Upgrade page?
A: If, due to internet connectivity problem, a firmware upgrade procedure fails in the middle of the downloading and the 2211 has not been rebooted, the Upgrade button will not be available. You can solve this problem by rebooting the 2211 and going through the normal firmware upgrade again. Another option is to factory reset and reboot the unit. The Upgrade button also may not work properly if Javascript is disabled by the browser.

Q: What is the difference between the MM2211-DZ and the MM2211-ST?
A: The MM2211-DZ is a single port Wireless Broadband Gateway supporting Dual Zone. Dual Zone allows home wireless devices to connect to the MM2211, and the MM2211 extends the signal to the Metro AP wirelessly.

The MM2211-ST does not support Dual Zone.

Q: I have a MM2211; how do I get the Dual Zone feature?
A: After obtaining the automatic firmware upgrade and rebooting the device, the Dual Zone feature will be active. Enable the Dual Zone feature by logging into the WebUI (Configuration - Wireless page) and enabling the functionality.

Q: Why am I redirected to the Web page of the MM2211?

A: Yes. The dual zone feature is supported in Route mode. To connect multiple wireless PCs to the MM2211 to access the Internet, first ensure that the MM2211 is set up to operate in Route mode. Route mode is the default configuration of the MM2211. Validate the setting by logging into the MM2211 and checking the Configuration - System page.

The Dual Zone does not support MM2211 in bridge mode.

Q: Can I upgrade a MM2211-ST to a MM2211-DZ?
A: No. MM2211-ST cannot be upgraded to MM2211-DZ. Users requiring the Dual Zone feature should purchase a MM2211-DZ.

Q: What is the performance impact of turning on Dual Zone?
A: The impact of turning on the dual zone can vary depending on the WAN wireless throughput. In most typical Metro Wi-Fi deployments where Internet connectivity is limited to 1 to 5 Mbps, the bottleneck is the WAN throughput and not the LAN throughput. In most situations the performance degradation will be less than 20%.

Q: What do the signal bars for Air Quality Meter measure?
A: The Air Quality meter (presented on the upper right hand corner of the WebUI and the login page) represents the Received Signal Strength measured at the MM2211 when communicating with Metro AP node.

The Air Quality level to the # of bar mapping is

  1. One bar -> 0 to 6 dB

  2. Two bars -> 7 to 12 dB

  3. Three bars -> 13 to 18 dB

  4. Four bars -> 19 to 24 dB

  5. Five bars -> greater than 24 dB
